Bothersome wasps

Posted by blueberrytalk on October 5, 2014

In the fall wasps seek entry into bee hives to steal honey. Here are some effective steps in deterring wasps.
1) After extracting, place the cappings in a shallow tray and feed to the bees between the inner and outer cover for a couple of days. Then place the tray on top of the colony. The wasps will be attracted to the trays rather than seeking entrance to the hives.
2) While the wasps are busy with the cappings use needle nose pliers to kill the wasps. A few trips to the apiary will reduce the wasp population in one day!
